Welcome to the Safer Spaces Toolkit

A resource of Australian Baptist Ministries to address domestic abuse and build relationally healthy communities

Search
"The Safer Spaces Toolkit is a vital resource for pastors and churches, a comprehensive learning guide of how to build relationally healthy communities. I encourage pastors to use this free tool to train leaders and staff in their churches and work through the training modules as a team. It’s the responsibility of all of us to keep our communities safe and to address issues of domestic abuse."
Mark Wilson
National Ministries Director, Australian Baptist Ministries

PREACHING TOOL

The Preaching Tool was originally designed for pastors and church leaders to use when writing sermons, but it’s also great for other forms of communication within the church, including pastoral care.

1

Could any aspect of my communication be misinterpreted as empowering a perpetrator or diminishing a victim?

2

Are there opportunities to identify, name and call out Domestic & Family Violence and abuse or attitudes that support it?

3

Am I robustly engaging with Biblical texts and theological implications, seeking to close any gaps of potential misinterpretation or misunderstanding?

4

Am I able to confront attitudes that create environments for unhealthy relational cultures to flourish?

5

What opportunities can I take to promote attitudes and actions that nurture healthy relational practice and experience?

Thank you to our generous supporters

As an Australian based project, we would like to acknowledge the traditional owners, past present and emerging, of the lands we live and work on.

In the context of this project, we would also like to acknowledge the lived experience of all those who have experienced violence and harm and commit to working toward change.
